Christina Creative Design Genesis WordPress Website Developer and Designer Sat, 29 Jul 2017 21:31:49 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Hide annoying rounding error in FlexSlider in WooCommerce 3.0 Gallery and fix other crappy things too Sat, 29 Jul 2017 21:31:49 +0000 The WooCommerce 3.0 product gallery, which you add theme support for in your theme’s php, has a few features one of them being FlexSlider. Like all responsive sliders, it calculates width in full pixels and rounds to the nearest down. However percentage based layouts (like the 50% 50% in WooCommerce single product) don’t work that way, so at certain veiwport widths, you will see 1px hanging out of the next slide. If all your slides]]> 0 How to Bulk Replace the 4.8 WordPress Text Widget with the Classic Text Widget Fri, 09 Jun 2017 19:28:34 +0000 If you updated to 4.8 WordPress you’ll notice a lot of nice improvements, but there is one thing that was done that I felt was like an artist over-working her painting: changing the Text widget to use a rich text editor. There are already plugins for that. The old pre 4.8 text widget was a way to add little snippets of html in your widgetized areas (aka sidebars). In many Genesis child themes, we rely]]> 19 Sukha Lifestyle Logo Tue, 09 Aug 2016 23:06:30 +0000 This logo was a joy to design. It’s so pretty and makes me happy. Which is appropriate since… Sukha is a Sanskrit and Pali word that is often translated happiness, ease, pleasure or bliss. Well, that’s all I have to write.]]> 0 Heavily Modify Simple Social Icons Plugin: Add another social network, re-order, use latest Font Awesome… Sun, 24 Jul 2016 18:13:35 +0000 This post is OUTDATED. The plugin has been update. See their GitHub Readme for how to add icons. It’s been a very long time since I last blogged. I’ve been busy with projects and life and couldn’t squeeze in the time. This is pushing it as well, but I had an urge to share. I have also not updated my site too. I guess I’m suffering from the “plumber has a leaky faucet” syndrome. In]]> 5 Four equidistant inline-block columns that break into 4, 2, 1 as the viewport gets skinny Thu, 31 Mar 2016 12:24:56 +0000 In the forum a person asked about having her columns naturally collapse so that the content will be 4 columns where there’s the width for it and, as the viewport decreases in width, the columns will start stacking in to 2 and then 1 column. The column classes that come with Genesis, Bootstrap, and others don’t do that. They use floats. You can use Flexbox or you can use inline-block. Flexbox is still buggy]]> 0 Updated: WordPress RSS feeds and MailChimp Mon, 28 Mar 2016 18:33:35 +0000 Do not send me a bug report. Become a paid member of MailChimp and after reading their documentation, if you have an issue, use their support. The original code last week was messed up in that the the same image was used in all posts, I should have noticed it. Anyway, this code is updated and it works great. Apparently hardly anyone is reading my blog to let me know of issues, which is disheartening.]]> 5 Fix blurry images in your WordPress oEmbed and use your own logo Tue, 22 Mar 2016 16:47:16 +0000 I noticed that some WordPress sites I embedded, including my own, had blurry images for their featured image and had the WordPress logo for their Site Identity icon. This post will instruct you how to correct this. First let’s get some history, you are not going to touch the WP core. If you look at the /wp-includes/embed-template.php file (4.4) or the /wp-includes/theme-compat/embed-content.php (4.5), you’ll notice that the script is working some php math to find the ratio for rectangular images. If your best fit for that rectangular image ratio is an image size (add_image_size) that is small, then the resulting embed will be blurry across the web. To check if your site’s embed is blurry (you must be updated to WordPress 4.4x), paste in a url to one of your blog posts in another post in draft mode. You can use the visual mode for this test. In a couple seconds, your post will show up like the one below. If you have a featured image on that post, that will show up as well.]]> 3 Repeat the Blog Post Title on the Blog Single Page Mon, 21 Mar 2016 15:23:31 +0000 Sometimes you need to make WordPress do things that are out of the ordinary, like repeating the title used on the Blog Post page on the single post pages. I had such a requirement since my client wants to use her blog to send out newsletters and the header of that single page is to repeat the style of the index/loop page archive header.]]> 0 Taming the WordPress editor the easy way Mon, 21 Mar 2016 14:50:51 +0000 In my old CMS, I also used TinyMCE and there was a simple field in the Admin to add a few bits of code to always paste as plain text and remove the features that can ugly-up the content. Before today, I added a tiny_mce_before_init and loaded another plugin to modify what features to show and what not to show. Today I found a wonderful plugin that automatically does that: it pastes as plain text (thus stripping out the garbage divs, spans, and font tags [yikes]) and removes some of the features of the editor.]]> 0 Just finishing up my very first site where I’ve use another designer’s theme Thu, 17 Mar 2016 02:12:56 +0000 I’m using a theme made by another designer as a starting point for the very first time since I started in 1999. I’m finishing up on this and am waiting for some content and a few other things. The client and I agreed that Outreach Pro by StudioPress is the one that would best fit their organization, which is really the Royal family in-exile and their friends who are trying to get the world to]]> 0 If the date is modified, show modified date in your Genesis Child theme posts Mon, 14 Mar 2016 16:06:17 +0000 In the Short Code reference there are a couple shortcodes missing. The first one below is the shortcode for the modified date. March 14, 2016 5:24 pm To indicate that the date was last updated on, I check to see if it was modified. This is so all the posts, even new ones, don’t show the text “Last updated on” before the date: This modified from the one I use on this blog since I]]> 0 Logo that hangs outside the .site-header in Genesis with CSS Tue, 08 Mar 2016 21:48:06 +0000 A week or so ago someone in a Genesis forum had a CSS situation where the client’s logo designer suggested placement outside the .site-header. This example is using Outreach Pro. If you use this in another theme, you may have to make adjustments to the CSS. View Demo Software requirements: Photoshop or Illustrator or equivalent FTP Code Editor Set up the Logo Get the vector logo and either open it in Illustrator or place it]]> 2 Fast and Free WordPress Database migration without losing serialized data Thu, 10 Mar 2016 14:32:27 +0000 If you don’t want to lose your widgets, your CMB2 content, or other serialized data, the Search and Replace for WordPress Databases by interconnect/it is amazing! I had a BUNCH of CMB2 fields and when I did a standard find and replace or a SQL query, my content was just not showing up when I moved my site. Widgets and CMB2 use serialized data. That stuff is completely over my head. Check out this descriptive]]> 0 Limit WP Clips to only a Genesis theme and only a specific child theme Wed, 09 Mar 2016 15:55:32 +0000 For a lot of situations you don’t have to use a plugin to update your Genesis child theme, you can just edit the child theme’s files directly. However, if you are a developer working on a client’s site, using WP Clips as a mu-plugin, you can keep the child theme pristine, make some major customizations and, if sometime in the future, that particular child theme does have an update (and many do), you can install]]> 2 Customize and remove a specific post, page, or taxonomy from the genesis_sitemap_output Wed, 24 Feb 2016 14:48:29 +0000 Before you read this article, read this excellent tutorial and explanation of the Genesis genesis_sitemap_output() and how you can remove sections on Victor Font’s site In this article, I’ll share how to remove individual pages, posts or taxonomies from the output without creating an archive page. I’ve done some pretty extensive work on my site map page since I had a specific idea in mind: I wanted my web-design custom post type to be part]]> 0
